Why is Routine Dental Care Important?
At regular dental appointments, our dental and office staff provide dental cleanings, digital x-rays and scans, and consultations with our patients. We will also screen for dental problems, including periodontitis and oral cancer.
Dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar from the mouth. Plaque is a sticky bacterial film that covers the teeth and gums. Once the plaque builds up, it can irritate and inflame the gums. Additionally, bacteria can eat away at food debris that creates buildup in the mouth. As a result, the bacteria eat away at the enamel. Cleanings and a good oral hygiene routine can prevent gum disease and cavities.
Our office also uses digital technology, including iTero scans and x-rays, to diagnose patients and keep track of their oral health. With detailed images of the smile, we can assess patients’ smiles and also recommend treatments as needed. With our technology, we can view problems including broken, missing, and infected teeth as well as damage to the roots or gum tissue.
We will also look for signs of gum disease and oral cancer. Early signs of gum disease include inflamed, irritated, red, and bleeding gums. Over time, patients with gum disease experience bad breath, gum recession, and even loose teeth. Chronic mouth sores as well as red and white patches in the mouth are indicators of oral cancer. Our team looks for abnormalities in the mouth so we can get patients immediate care.
